Classified since 1983, the city is set along a bay that for centuries played
the role of main trading port of the Atlantic shipping routes.
The historic centre of Angra do Heroísmo very soon began to concentrate
economic, religious, political, administrative and military roles.
The decorative elements of an intercontinental influence, combined with
Renaissance architecture, result in a handsome and ample city looking
simultaneously towards the sea and towards its people.
