Town Hall – 19th cent.
11_i This is a rare example of an edifice built in order to fulfil the same function it is fulfilling at present, the present City Hall building is the third version of the Paços do Concelho of Angra. A coat of arms of the city carved in stone, belonging to the first edifice, is kept at the entrance hall.

At the top of the staircase there is a triple, stained-glass window with the Portuguese flag, the emblems of the city and the first emblem of the Third Order – The Cross of Christ. The bust of Infante D. Henrique was made by Numídico Bessone. In the Salão Nobre, the portraits of several monarchs and Presidents of the City Hall, as well as a bust of D. Pedro IV, are exhibited. There are also several symbols of the City Hall: The Keys of the City, the necklace of the Orden da Torre e Espada (Order of the Tower and of the Sword), the Carta Régia (Royal Charter), the Varas (Rods) and the first Bandeira Lusitana (Lusitanian Flag) hoisted after the Liberal Fights.
