Placed at one end of Ferrol square, it is the only remnant of the old hospital of San Bartolomé or San Juan de Dios, founded in 1621. Two construction phases can be distinguished in the church, the first one is close to its foundation and it affected the main body of the building, of cruciform structure and plain lines, and the second one affected the façade, possibly with the enlargement of the church, carried out towards the middle of the 18th century by bishop Fray Francisco Izquierdo. In 1893, bishop Aguirre created a third parish in the city, and the church has been the parish of San Froilán ever since then.
