University and Church of Compañía
9_i The Church of the Society is located beside the Literary University. It was built by the Jesuits in the 17th century. At the end of the 18th century, when the order was expelled from Spain, it became the University chapel and the façade images, representing St. Ignatius and St. Francis Xavier, were disfigured in order to represent St. Peter and St. Paul. It houses a valuable baroque high altarpiece. The building is now used actively as an exhibition hall.
