The week before the 24th of June (2006: 16th to 25th)
The Festas Sanjoaninas, also “Festas da Cidade”, are essentially devoted to the
so-called Santos Populares. They have already acquired rather relevant
proportions in the Region, as far as the number of visitors is concerned. From
Bullfights to parades and ethnographic representations, thematic parades, folk
processions, shows and exhibitions, or even sport events and gastronomy, the
Sanjoaninas are no longer mere municipal festivals. Now, they are the reason
for thousands of visitors to arrive, which implies an impact on physic and
human resources on a large scale. They also generate huge economic benefits to
the advantage of the municipality and its inhabitants.
