Gastronomía tradicional alentejana 2005 © Oficina Virtual de Turismo Évora makes available to visitors all year round an intense and varied cultural offer, a large part of which expresses the most genuine assets of the city’s identity. Such is the case of its rich and varied gastronomy, which can be enjoyed at the scores of restaurants scattered throughout the historic centre. Through the initiative Rota de Sabores Tradicionais (Route of traditional flavors), which takes place between January and May, it is possible to sample the typical dishes of the region, consisting of traditional recipes for game, soups, pork, lamb and convent confectionery.

There are also the different festivals and street spectacles present in the everyday life of the town. Its oldest traditional festivity is celebrated in June. Popularly known as the Feira de S. João, it is a good opportunity to get acquainted with the flow of social and cultural life among the eborenses. Namely, throughout the year it is possible to see such varied proposals as BIME, Bienal Internacional de Marionetas de Évora (The Biennial International Puppet Show of Évora), the Classical Music Festival, the Summer Festival, the fashion festival “Évoramoda” and the Natal Clássico (Classical Christmas).

The sports and leisure department finds also a significant expression among the town’s annual events. The periodic celebration of air shows for the promotion of tourism should be mentioned, among which the “Portugal Air Show” should be featured, as well as other events such as the “24 hours of go-kart racing of Évora”.
