Évora is located on a hill of gentle inclines and surrounded by a portion of
the Southern Sub-plateau, which has an average height of 240 meters.
Its climate is Mediterranean, tempered by a certain Atlantic influence, with
long, hot and dry summers, mild winters and a low average annual rainfall. The
transparent blue of its skies and the golden light of the early evening are
unique.
The town is the pole of the vast Alentejo region, which occupies nearly a third
of Portugal.
Nowadays, its geo-strategic position is enhanced by the main axes of
communication that have been built (the Lisbon/Madrid motorway and the
North/South motorway) and by other important infrastructures – the airport, the
central market and the industrial park. A prestigious University with
approximately 7000 students acts as a bridge between the World Heritage and the
technologically advanced industries that have already begun to be set up in
Évora.
