At the northwestern end of the
Iberian Peninsula, in the heart of Galicia, on a low rounded hill on the banks
of the Miño, stands Lugo, a city of about one hundred thousand inhabitants with
more than two thousand years of history.
Lugo of honey and steel, one poet said. This great small town, just the size of
the human heart, preserves within its walls the material and the spiritual
legacy of a millennial history. It also extends outwards and towards the
future, however, like a living being, and is growing as a cultured, university,
tourist, commercial, and discreetly industrial town.
At the town’s feet, the river Miño and its tributaries make up a magnificent
natural environment: the greenest Galicia surrounding the most ancient stones. |
