Placed outside the walls, very near from the gate from which it has taken its name. This exhibition room was originally a municipal slaughterhouse. Nowadays it holds a permanent exhibition entitled “IMAGO ANTIQUA. Lugo romano” that explains in a didactic, entertaining way the configuration of the urban structure of Lugo in Roman times (the old Lvcvs Avgvsti). The exhibition is structured in four parts, which correspond to the four main periods that Lugo underwent under the Roman rule: its origins, its splendour, the fortification of the city and its decline. Among the abundant archaeological remains from Roman times that can be seen, we must mention the city’s foundational monolith.
