The construction of the Cathedral, of Latin cross plan, started in the 12th century. Yet, it was not finished until several centuries later, which is why it shows elements belonging to different artistic styles, from Romanesque to neoclassic. The majesty of its three naves, its magnificent central choir, its huge altarpieces, its harmonic baroque cloister, its gothic ambulatory and apses create an exceptional temple that receives us, as we enter through the northern gate, with a Pantocrator, which is other of the masterpieces of Romanesque sculpture. We must also mention the baroque chapel of the Virgen de los Ojos Grandes, devoted to the Virgin who is the patron of the city, made in the 18th century by Fernando de Casas y Novoa.
