Its construction started in 1240, but only the church, a masterpiece of
mendicant gothic style of extremely slim lines, remains nowadays, and it is
known as San Pedro parish church since 1893. Its original, cosy and silent
cloister has also remained, it is certainly a rare, unique piece of work in
Galicia since, in spite of its late date of creation, its columns and capitals
are an example of pure Romanesque.
Since 1957 the convent has been the Provincial Museum, and it is there that we
can admire the traces of the history in Lugo from pre-Roman times up to
present, being one of the most important and most frequently visited museums in
Galicia.
