Baroque. 18th century.
Placed in Santa María square, as a baroque counterpoint of the Northern façade of the Cathedral, the Bishop’s palace was built upon the remains of the old medieval tower of the Counts of Lemos. After several works carried out by the end of the 17th century, bishop Cayetano Gil Taboada, whose coat of arms can be seen on its façade, commissions a remodelling of the whole ensemble, which is carried out between 1739 and 1743, and it turns into one of the most beautiful instances of baroque civil architecture in Lugo.
