Porto
D. Maria bridge 2005 © Oficina Virtual de Turismo The geographical location of Porto, in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula, lends to the city a high average solar exposure. Its being next to the Atlantic Sea makes for a pleasant, if relatively humid climate.

With 263.131 inhabitants, it is one of Portugal’s largest cities, and the main pole of attraction for employment of the country’s northern region (Região Norte), particularly regarding activities of the tertiary sector. Of the approximately 220.000 people who work in Porto, a vast majority of 75 % carries out activities of that kind, namely of a financial nature, or in social among other services, mainly in work related to health and education.
